Course Description
To celebrate national poetry month, we are offering this special workshop by award winning writer, Gwen North Reiss. In this writing workshop, we’ll look at the tradition of ekphrastic poetry—poetry that is written in response to art. After reading and discussing a few examples, participants will visit both the gallery and the Japanese garden, observing the works on view and then walking in the garden. We will make notes for a poem and do some free writing from prompts. We’ll also explore an accessible five-line form of Japanese poetry called the tanka. Bring a notebook and pen and wear comfortable shoes for walking.
