Course Description

Take your bookbinding skills to the next level in this hands-on intermediate course focused on creating a beautifully crafted hard-cover book. Students will build on basic bookbinding techniques while learning the structure and process of constructing a durable hardcover binding. Through demonstrations and guided instruction, students will explore preparing and sewing pages, creating book boards, attaching a spine, covering the book with decorative paper or book cloth, and assembling the finished book. There will also be opportunities to explore design choices and finishing details to make each book uniquely your own. This course is ideal for students who have some previous bookbinding experience or have completed a beginner bookbinding class. Come ready to work with paper, thread, boards, and cover materials while developing your skills and creating a handmade hardcover book to enjoy for years to come. Basic materials will be provided, and students are welcome to bring their own images, text, or art materials to incorporate into their work.
