Art Into Words: Poetry Workshop

Course Description

Join award-winning writer Gwen North Reiss for a creative writing workshop exploring the tradition of ekphrastic poetry—poetry written in response to art. After reading and discussing a few examples, participants will visit both the gallery and Japanese garden, observing the works on view and taking inspiration from the surrounding landscape. We’ll make notes for a poem, experiment with free writing prompts, and explore an accessible five-line form of Japanese poetry called the tanka. Bring a notebook and pen, and wear comfortable shoes for walking.
