enough: occurring in such quantity, quality, or scope as to fully meet demands, needs, or expectations.

What is enough?
This exhibition, curated by Simon Draper, presents a selection of works by artists inspired by the notion of ENOUGH. The exhibition explores the process of artmaking when it is freed from the influences of contentification and commodification that currently dominate the art market. How can art and artmaking exist and be understood differently in our society than they are now? How would the viewing, perception, and production of art alter if it is not tied to the influences of the contemporary art market? When art is seen as a luxury commodity only for the wealthy, how does this impact the understanding, appreciation, and production of art?

Draper was inspired by The New York Times bestseller, Abundance, written by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson, which explores the economic and social crisis of scarcity. The non-fiction book and political manifesto proposes a progressive “abundance” framework which focuses on making resources available so economic factors no longer have to be tied to the mundane. Building off of this idea, Draper takes a cultural perspective in agreeing with Klein and Thompson’s question of why don’t we live in a “better world.” To him, this ideal world would encourage artists to create to inspire rather than to create to satisfy the market. Draper intentionally chose these artists to join this exhibition as they share the idea that the value of making art is ENOUGH.
