Priya Tambe:
Echoes of the Pond
Exhibition:
August 30-November 16
Priya Tambe’s site-specific, immersive installation, Echoes of the Pond responds to the movement and sounds of life within the Hammond Museum’s Japanese Stroll Garden. Inspired by the graceful ripples made by a turtle gliding across the pond, Tambe was moved by how the supple waves softly lifted and rocked the nearby lily pads—a peaceful moment that revealed the subtle interplay between movement, water, and stillness.
Echoes of the Pond celebrates the interconnectedness of the natural world and the human spirit. Tambe’s encaustic paper sculptures echo the delicate strength and ephemeral beauty of nature. Suspended above the viewer, they gently sway with the breeze, captivating the audience and transporting them back to the tranquility of the pond.
As a practitioner of Art Therapy, Tambe’s work emphasizes the healing power of engaging with the creative arts and nature. Her work reflects upon the deep connection between the natural world and the human spirit and the resilience of both.

In conjunction with the current exhibition Priya Tambe: Echoes of the Pond, in this workshop participants will learn about the encaustic painting techniques used to make the artworks on view. Artist Priya Tambe demonstrates how she creates luminous, abstract forms using paper and encaustic medium (molten beeswax and resin).
At the conclusion of the demo, each participant will receive a sheet of handmade paper dipped in encaustic wax, along with a pressed leaf gathered from the Hammond’s grounds. With these materials, attendees are invited to design their own unique creation, which Priya will artfully fuse on the hot plate. Their finished piece will then be theirs to take home--a tangible memory of their creative experience.
