FALL 2024 ADULT WHEEL THROWING CLASSES
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The classes will explore the timeless art of pottery through the experience of working with a pottery wheel. Introduction to pottery wheel techniques as well as fine tuning intermediate and advanced wheel throwing skills.
WHAT YOU WILL BE TAUGHT AS A BEGINNER:

Wheel basics: Familiarize yourself with the pottery wheel and master the crucial skill of centering clay.

Forming Techniques: Learn various techniques for shaping clay, including pulling walls up, lifting and trimming to create bowls, cups and vases.

Surface Decoration: Explore methods for decorating your pottery, such as carving, stamping, and slip application to add texture and visual interest.

Glazing: Gain insight into the glazing process and techniques for applying glazes to achieve desired colors and finishes.
IF YOU ARE AN INTERMEDIATE OR AN ADVANCED WHEEL THROWER:
You will know these basics and expand your skills by throwing more complex forms like lidded jars, tea pots and sets or dive deeper into surface design.
COURSE STRUCTURE:
The course consists of hands-on demonstrations, guided practice sessions and personalized instruction to ensure each participant develops confidence and skill. You will have ample opportunity to practice each technique under the guidance of an experienced pottery instructor who will provide feedback and support throughout your learning experience.
Whether you are interested in pursuing pottery as a hobby or wish to explore it as a potential artistic practice, these courses will equip you with the skills and knowledge to continue your journey with confidence.
