Voices: I Remember

Group Show Artist: Wennie Huang

Guild Hall Gallery

June 5 - November, 2021

Curated by Bibiana Huang Matheis

My mixed-media installations explore relationships between identity and landscape, cultural myths and stereotypes related to my Chinese American heritage. Images refer to historical documentary photographs as well as family photo albums, each a contrast in representations of the diasporic experiences in America. Having never traveled to Asia, these second-hand photographs resonate as surrogate memories. Repeating structures emerge as connections to personal memory and collective history, their multiplicity a reflection of everyday accumulations, together evoking the notion that anything small, incidental, or often over-looked can gain presence by becoming part of a larger body, or part of a larger story.
