Course Description

This four-day workshop is for anyone interested in the ancient and wonderful art of stone carving. Students will be introduced to this mediums’ tools and techniques through discussion, demonstration, and guided instruction on their own piece of limestone included with the registration fee. Instruction will center around three-dimensional carving skills, and the process of bringing a small relief motif to life. They will learn the use of traditional hand chisels, as well as learn about contemporary methods of cutting and polishing stone. This workshop will be held on the beautiful grounds of the museum rain or shine. Student must bring a pair of leather work gloves and eye protection. All other materials will be provided.
