Course Description
Learn new techniques for glazing to make your pottery unique. In this workshop we will discuss glazing safety and the characteristics of glazes and how to choose the right glaze for your piece. The instructor will demonstrate various application techniques including dipping, pouring, brushing, spattering and sponging. Other topics to be covered include overlap glazing and the use of oxide washes and underglazes. And finally, the steps to using resist techniques like wax, paper, and latex will be shown. Lots of individual coaching will be provided as you try these different methods to glaze your own work. No experience necessary. Students should bring 3-4 pieces of bisque to glaze. The pieces should be NO LARGER than 8” x 6” x 6”. All pieces that are intended to be used in this class should be on the bisque firing shelf NO LATER than Monday, December 1st. Clay and Firing fees are not included in this class. This is a very messy class – please dress accordingly! Documents provided: Decorating with Color, glazing for better and more consistent results glazing safely. If you do not have pieces to glaze, samples will be provided.
