Course Description
What are the components of making convincing and pleasing images? They include design, mark making, attention to shapes and negative space, and sensitivity to tonal variation. When using pastels, the exciting possibilities of color – hue, temperature, intensity – come alive. We start in black and white, and make sure that you are familiar with your tools, what they can do, and the values, shapes and forms they can produce. Then we work on creating compositions that are well-balanced and interesting, with a focal point, harmony and unity, and full exploitation of the medium's possibilities, whether charcoal or pastel.
