Course Description

This class focuses on the fundamentals of observational drawing, developing both perceptual and hands-on skills. Through techniques such as sighting, perspective, and gesture drawing, students learn how to begin and build a drawing with confidence. Emphasis is placed on learning to see accurately, breaking familiar forms into abstract components, and translating observation into expressive marks. Classes combine lecture, demonstration, and studio practice and guided feedback. Students will work with charcoal and graphite to develop line quality, value, proportion, and spatial depth through still-life drawing and sustained practice. Suitable for beginners and those looking to refresh skills. No prior experience required. Students should bring a drawing pad (9x12 or 11x 14). All other materials will be provided.
