Tea Hut

Poetry of Place

Soli Pierce

Exhibition:
Sept 12-Nov 15, 2026

This exhibition by Soli Pierce in the Hammond Museum’s Tea Hut creates an intimate dialogue between art and nature. The artist’s site-specific installation of artworks inspired by the Hammond’s Japanese Stroll Garden echoes the swaying bamboo, majestic trees, and changing seasons found just beyond the Tea Hut.

Artist’s Statement:

There is a poetry of place here that first revealed itself to me standing in the bamboo grove on a cold January day, where frozen ground and whispering bamboo invited a profound stillness. The Tea Hut became part of a ritual of pause before entering the gardens beyond, awakening a quiet knowing that has deepened through the changing seasons. The ceramic forms, hand-rubbed forest sticks, and long-exposure photographs each reflect nature's cycles, the rhythms of bamboo, and my own experience of this landscape. This body of work is my offering to the Hammond Museum and an invitation for others to discover their own still points within the poetry of place.
