Statement:
A sable palm husk crashed 40 feet treetop to ground in front of me in southern California. Badly disfigured in this otherwise-normal lifecycle shedding, it was evocative and beauty-filled in death. Lovingly weaving its parts back into recognizable form, initial stitching was as emergency triage: furtive and spaced randomly to stabilize the rapidly drying husk. Then patterns emerged and stitches re-sewn with a deeper, more deliberate awareness. The husk came to pose a question: Putting things back together after injury, disfigurement, failure, misunderstanding...can we find value, forgiveness, beauty or healing in the changed state or situation?
