These paintings are a series of portraits of my mother. They were painted over a six-month time period around the time she passed away in 2011. My painting of this series was a process as life and death is a process. Painting is a way of tapping into memories in a visceral way, the time-lapse involved was part of the healing process. The circular nature of memories come into play here in that my mother visited the Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll garden when she came to visit us from Wales, and now my first time showing these paintings is here at the Hammond Museum.
