Honoring Jay Lindsay

Master Potter and Sculptor

June 19 to September 7, 2019

Curated by Sally Aldrich.

Melvin Jay Lindsay was an artist working in pottery, sculpture, and sketchbooks for the past 43 years in New York.

Raised in the Northwest and a graduate of the University of Oregon, Lindsay had always loved travel and when possible, during the cold New York winters, traveled and sketched around the world.

He filled over 30 sketchbooks on his travels with watercolors and ink drawings. These would inspire his work in ceramics and sculpture upon his return to New York.

He made the ceramic bowl currently on show at the Hammond while traveling in China, and had a master painter put the designs on it in traditional style.
