About the Event
2pm Ikebana Demonstration, Shizue Pleasanton
Join instructor Shizue Pleasanton as she demonstrates how to prepare three different styles of Sogetsu Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arrangement. Blending the concept of natural balance and minimalism, the evolving art form pays respect to both traditional and contemporary aesthetics. Shizue is the Sogetsu Study Group Vice Chairman of Connecticut and past New York Branch Director.
3pm Cherry Blossom Ramble
Celebrate the early appearance of cherry blossoms at the Hammond with an artistic ramble in our Japanese Stroll Garden. Suitable for all ages, we will walk among the Hammond’s cherry blossoms, welcome our new trees, learn more about their biology, hear and write poems inspired by these trees, and explore their meaning in Japanese culture. We will conclude with special cherry blossom-inspired treats.
Please wear clothing with images or the colors of cherry blossoms.
