About the Event

Reservations for the Chabako and Chanoyu sessions must be made by October 12.

Formal Tea Ceremony Demonstration in the Hammond Tea Room

Hosted by Yasuko Hara and Junko Nanahara, Omotosenke School of Tea instructors

Chanoyu Session A: 1:30-2:15pm

  • Tea Tasting (10 maximum) – participants sit on the tatami platform and taste matcha tea and sweets
  • Observers (10 maximum) – participants sit in chairs and do not receive tea/sweets

Chanoyu Session B: 2:30-3:15pm

  • Tea Tasting (10 maximum) – participants sit on the tatami platform and taste matcha tea and sweets
  • Observers (10 maximum) – participants sit in chairs and do not receive tea/sweets

Chabako Demonstration

Portable Style Tea Ceremony Designed for Travelers Demonstration

Hosted by Marybeth Welch and Greg Succop, Urasenke School of Tea instructors

Chabako Session A: 1:30-2:15pm

  • All guests (40 maximum) seated in chairs, no tea/sweets served

Chabako Session B: 2:30-3:15pm

  • All guests (40 maximum) seated in chairs, no tea/sweets served

Between the Cups of Tea

Tea Tasting by Bamboo Grove

Wander through the Japanese Stroll Garden. Stop by at the Bamboo Grove to join for a journey through taste, and learn the stories between the cups of tea in our hands. 

Hosted by Tea Arts & Culture, a non-profit organization creating connections through tea.

1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. No registration is needed. Seated spots are limited to 6 a time.

Ticket Pricing:

  • General admission: $15 per person
  • Hammond Museum member: $10 per person
  • Tea Club member in active status: free -- MUST contact director@hammondmuseum.org to reserve your seat
  • Chanoyu session participants receiving tea and sweets: additional $10 per person
