About the Event
Award winning master of painting in the colorful Ling-nan style of Southern China, Frank Liao will demonstrate how to visualize and paint one of the glories of the fall season—Japanese maple branches with birds. Students will learn which brushes to use, how to use water, how to load the brush with color, and how to handle the brush to create strong and spontaneous movement and shapes. The workshop will enable students new to Chinese brush painting to gain some facility with the basics and will help more experienced artists to refine their skills. For those who stay for the workshop, Mr. Liao will do another demonstration, following which, students will practice on their own and have the opportunity to be tutored individually.
This program is organized by the Asian Brush Artist’s Guild and is open to their members and visitors. All Workshop participants may attend the Demonstration without additional charge.
