About the Event
We all admire the jewel-like beauty of goldfish, or koi in Japanese, as they glide through the water with their flowing tails and fins. In many cultures, they are also imbued with symbolic meaning. In China goldfish are highly regarded as a symbol of good fortune, wealth, and abundance. In Japan they represent happiness, luck, and prosperity. Award-winning master of painting, Frank Liao will share his vision of these delightful creatures as he demonstrates how to paint goldfish in the colorful Lingnan style of Southern China.
Students will learn which brushes to use, how to use water, how to load the brush with color, and how to handle the brush to create strong and spontaneous movement and shapes. The workshop will enable students new to Chinese brush painting to gain some facility with the basics and will help more experienced artists to refine their skills. For those who stay for…
