About the Event
Encore! Four Women in Their Own Words will bring back Fannie Lou Hamer, Frida Kahlo, Harriet Tubman, and Virginia Woolf in four monologues written by Mara Mills.
The four women are featured in Encore Power an installation by artist, Carla Rae Johnson on view at the Hammond Museum since June of this year. The artist helps us imagine what these great women would be doing for an “encore” were they to come back to us, today.
Mining quotes and writings from each of the women, Mara Mills, artistic director of Studio Theater in Exile, created a monologue for each panel, and four talented women bring them to life. Carol Bash will appear as Fannie Lou Hamer. Judy Allen will bring back Frida Kahlo. Leslie Fields-Cruz will channel Harriet Tubman, and Donna Barkman will be the voice of Virginia Woolf.
The monologues will be followed by a Q & A.
