The Hammond offers internship opportunities for local high school, college, and graduate students interested in experience and careers in art, museum administration, gardens, and Asian studies. As part of a small organization and working directly with staff and Board members, you will have a chance to learn about and be involved in all aspects of day-to-day responsibilities and tasks. There is also ample opportunity to create and try new initiatives of your own and to tailor your internship to your interests and goals.

All abilities, skills, ages, and experience welcome. Work once in a while or frequently. Participate as part of a group or putter along on your own.
Garden volunteers will work in and learn about gardening in the Japanese style. Tasks include tidying the stone and moss areas, raking the gravel paths, removing invasive plants, pruning shrubs and small trees (with guidance), and lots of weeding.
We greatly appreciate our volunteers and couldn’t manage without them. In return for your help, volunteers enjoy preferential access to workshops, free membership, and invitation to special celebratory events. And best of all, you’ll feel part of a dedicated group who are making a real difference to a special place.
