Course Description

Explore the meditative Japanese art of suminagashi, where ink is floated on water and gently transferred to paper, creating delicate, marbled patterns that are never repeated. This ancient process emphasizes spontaneity, balance, and the quiet movement of ink across the surface of water. In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of preparing water baths, applying sumi ink, and manipulating breath, tools, and movement to guide abstract designs. Each print captures a fleeting moment, resulting in layered, organic compositions rich with rhythm and subtle variation. No prior experience is necessary. All materials are provided, and participants will leave with a collection of unique prints that reflect the beauty of chance and flow.
