Course Description
Learn to make a basket made from long leaf pine needles. We will be using waxed linen, embroidery floss, artificial sinew, and/or yarn, and will be starting with a wooden center. Topics to be covered include the differences between pine needle types, preparing the needles, waxed linen vs artificial sinew, different type of basket centers, embellishing your basket, and how to start and how to finish your basket. This is a wonderful way to recycle from nature and is also a slow, meditative activity. No prior experience necessary, only a love for nature and a joy for playing, creating, learning and experimenting. We will be using sewing needles – careful, dexterous hands are a plus! All materials will be included. Please bring lunch!
