2007 Tea Classes

Come join us at the Hammond Museum this summer for a series of introductory classes on Tea. We will learn how a guest handles the bows and bowls when invited to share a bowl of tea. We will also talk about the Omotesenke Tea Tradition that has nutured Sen no Rikyu's style of tea for the last 400 years and about the arts and crafts of Japan - pottery, lacquer ware, weaving, flower arranging - that are integral to the Tea Ceremony.

Michael McKenna has been a student of the Omotesenke tradition of tea for almost 15 years, studying in both Tokyo and New York. Recently, he has received his certification as an instructor of Omotesenke Tea.
