2007 Tea Classes Taught by Michael McKenna

We will learn how a guest handles the bows and bowls when invited to share a bowl of tea. We will also talk about the Omotesenke Tea Tradition that has nutured Sen no Rikyu's style of tea for the last 400 years and about the arts and crafts of Japan - pottery, lacquer ware, weaving, flower arranging - that are integral to the Tea Ceremony. Michael McKenna has been a student of the Omotesenke tradition of tea for almost 15 years, studying in both Tokyo and New York. Recently, he has received his certification as an instructor of Omotesenke Tea. Classes are scheduled to coincide with special events at the Hammond: Saturday, April 14 Spring Exhibition Opening Tea at 12:30 and 2:30 Sunday, May 6 Blessing of the Animals Tea at 1:30 Saturday, June 2 Jazz & Yasuko's Party Tea at 2:15 Sunday, July 15 Asian Arts Festival Tea at 1:30 Friday, August 24 Moonviewing Tea at 6:30 Saturday, September 15 Fall Exhibition Opening Tea at 3:30 This must be taken as a series.
