Mt. Fuji

Conceptualized in early 1998, the Hammond Museum's Mount Fuji Project is intended to further expand the museum's commitment to bring Eastern Art to a Western audience.

In the Hokusai print, Mt. Fuji is depicted in classic style - stoic and monumental - dwarfing all other elements.

It was pointed out that the museum could present visitors to the Stroll Garden with a tribute to this work by creating a likeness to Mt.Fuji in miniature. The project will be installed on the previously unoccupied space depicted below. Once carefully planted, and adorned with stone, the likeness of Mt. Fuji will be seen presiding over the Stroll Garden's Dry Landscape Garden.
