| Art Exhibit - Hays Gallery “Holiday in Eden” Jason Noushin “Hammond 2010 Tri State Artist Competition Grand Prize Winner” Jason Noushin is the grand prize winner of the Hammond Museum’s Tri State Artist Competition, which was juried by David Revere McFadden, Chief Curator and Vice President of the Museum of Arts and Design. For this designation, Noushin was awarded a solo show in the Hammond Museum’s Hays Gallery. Noushin works in pen and ink on paper from 18th and early 19th century books and pamphlets, all byproducts of his antiquarian book business. Of this work Noushin says, “working with 300 year old handmade paper is a special privilege.” He uses the age related blemishes of the paper, such as foxing and stains, to create a colorful background for his imagery as well as often integrating found objects pressed between the pages and inscriptions and marginal notes into his work. He then pastes the pages to boards, in several layers and holds “the board as I sketch, sometimes walking as I draw, reading the text, allowing the drawing to evolve naturally.” For more information, please call (914) 669-5033 or email gardenprogram@yahoo.com |
